Navigation Software after his Trans-Atlantic record breaking run with
Bruno Peyron on Orange II.
"The
Orange II Trans-Atlantic record run was a huge success, setting a new
world record of 4 days 8 hours 23 minutes 54 seconds, and a new 24 hour
record of 766.8 miles.
For our
pre-departure planning to identify a weather window for a record run,
for on board weather routing and performance analysis, I used Expedition
Navigation Software as our primary routing tool.
Having
used almost all of the different navigation software packages available,
I found Expedition extremely intuitive, powerful and easy to use.
Expedition has made my life as a navigator easy. It is easy to download
and install, to update and you are very quickly able to set it up and
use it.
The
Optimal Routing tools in Expedition are superb, allowing me to
continually refine and compare routes before and during the crossing. I
was able to analyse each routing option (sometimes up to 40 routes at a
time) thoroughly to ensure that I had Orange II sailing at her optimum
to take advantage of the weather for the record run. I ran over 1000
routing options before and during our record run.
